Re-Aliasing, part 2: Changing the past
When you have fixed the future aliasing in the alias table as described in the article “Re-Aliasing, Part 1: Altering the Future” Then you can go repair the past. It starts the same – with the menu to Import Transactions. (Data Management>Import Transactions), or hopefully you have put the Import Transactions button on your shortcut menu.

From this menu, choose “Re-aliasing”
You will have the option to filter by Batch or by Company Names. For this example, I chose Company Names:

On the Filter by Company popup, click on the lookup button next to Manufacturer.

In the Company Lookup box, start typing until the record you want comes up. Click on it.

On the Filter by Company screen, you can choose Aliased Name or Original Name. In this example, we are using Original Name. Type enough of the Original Name that it will generate a short list and press the Filter button.

Choose the record that you want to change by clicking the check box on the left of that line and then click the Re-Alias button.

On the Re-Alias popup, the magnifier in the middle is the one that you can click on if it is a Customer you are re-aliasing.

Find the customer you want on this record (or these records) to alias to and click on it.

Choose whether you want to re-alias just the selected records or “All.” “All” is very powerful. If you are unsure, choose “Selected Records.” Verify that the information is correct on the Re-Alias popup and click “Save.”

If it was a split transaction, the relationship window will pop up. If it was not, the message “Alias Updated” will briefly appear and you are done.
Here are the relationship pop up options for split transactions. After you make these choices, it will give you the “Alias Updated” message and it is done! Hooray!
